Christina gill mezzo-soprano
Mezzo soprano, Christina Gill is quickly establishing herself as an up-and-coming singer to keep an eye on. She is recognised for her magnetic stage presence and powerful, sultry tone.
After completing her studies at the prestigious Eastman School of Music and Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, Christina relocated to London and has recently become a dual British and American citizen.
Since living in the UK, she has performed the role of Carmen numerous times and was described by Rupert Christiansen in The Telegraph as singing "forcefully as a sassy and ruthless Carmen." She has also been praised for her portrayals of Donna Elvira, Suzuki, Charlotte, and Maddalena
With effortless high notes, ample volume, and an electric stage presence, Christina is now adding more dramatic roles, including Kundry and Princess Eboli, to what was a primarily romantic and contemporary repertoire. She looks forward to portraying these dynamic characters on stage.
In concert, Christina has been the mezzo soloist in numerous oratorios and concerts including Cincinnati Opera Gala ('03), Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Brahms’ Alto Rhapsody, and Vivaldi’s Gloria. Recently she performed the Habanera with the RTÉ National Concert Orchestra live on RTÉ Radio 1 for the Arena Arts Programme. Christina has also performed excerpts from Don Giovanni live on the BBC Radio 3's In Tune, singing the role of Donna Elvira. She was also featured at the Kennedy Center in the National Symphony Orchestra's series, "Stars of Tomorrow," singing arias from Carmen with the late Marvin Hamlisch conducting.
Passionate about contemporary music, Christina was thrilled to sing the title role in Margaret Garner workshop performances for Cincinnati Opera, ahead of its world premiere. She also worked extensively with Jake Heggie on his chamber works The Deepest Desire and Statuesque which she performed at the Grandin Music Festival.
Most recently, Christina has sung the role of Maddalena in the Opera Brava touring production of Rigoletto and made her Irish debut as Donna Agnes in The Sleeping Queen and Une voix de femme in Thérèse at the Wexford Festival Opera.
Future engagements include the mezzo solos in Petite Messe Solennelle, Verdi Requiem, Feel The Spirit (Rutter), and Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro in Baugé, France.
